Abstract The overarching question for this research is: What are the discontinuities in literacy and numeracy practices between indigenous community schooling and urban high schools? It will involve identification of the literacy and numeracy practices valued in the community and determining how these are enacteds through curricula in both community primary school and urban high school settings. This NT project which will develop a number of case studies will inform appropriate policy in the area and offer advice to those involved in improving educational outcomes for indigenous students, particularly those who are required to relocate to continue their education beyond primary school in urban settings.
