Abstract Living in a new country is not an eccentricity: it is the contemporary condition. We live as others allow us to live, creating meeting places as we go along. Such places may be monumental, they may be nothing more than encounters...yet they can form the basis ofa social fabric, one that does not suppress the contingency of its community but makes its migratory haphazardness the material out of which it weaves its identity.
