Abstract Child and family health (C&FH) nurses and paediatric nurses are often grouped together because both professional groups work with children. The reality is, however, that many believe that the two nursing specialties are very different; this paper therefore aims to explore these differences. It focuses on issues around professional identity and the principles of partnership, including the difficulties faced by both groups embedding these principles into practice.
