Abstract Scheele discovered many new substances and is particularly admired by those chemists who champion experimental work. Diverse groups of scientists and technologists recognise his pioneering efforts in their fields. These groups include pharmacists, organic chemists, analysts, photographers, and metallurgists as he made significant discoveries in each of these areas. In school textbooks he is mentioned with Lavoisier and Priestley as one of the co-discoverers of oxygen. This study will give a concise picture of his life and work.
