Abstract This research worked with Indigenous communities in northern Australia to explore the establishment of enterprises based on small-scale harvesting of plant material. It investigated the basis for selection of plant products and undertook case studies on selective harvests. The case studies looked at bushfoods, customary foods for sale within communities, live plant trade, arts and craft, as well as novelties and educational items for the tourism market.
