Significance note Glass Bottle CDU Nursing Museum [Catalogue Number G30/Glass Box 3] This round-based green glass bottle 20cm in height and 7.75 cm across was one of a number of bottles donated by George and Noreen Brown. It has a paper label with a logo of possibly a rose and below is: Solution of Hamamelis B.P.C. 1934 Syn : Distilled Witch Hazel THE WHOLESALE DRUG CO. LTD., SYDNEY Hamamelis, the genus of the commonly known Witch Hazel1, was used medicinally for skin care – bruises, sores rashes, insect bites and to reduce swelling. It is still a common component in some modern-day alternative medicines. The bottle has a piece of broken cork inside and the cork in the neck cannot be removed. It is in good condition though the paper label is very brown with age. It is stored with other bottles in acid-free tissue paper in an appropriate museum quality box.
