Item Dates unknown
Significance Historic
Significance note Historic: Representativeness: used in hospital and at home. Eyewash Glass CDU Nursing Museum [Catalogue Number G60/Glass Box 2] This small clear glass cup with a stem is for an eye-wash and was donated by Jennifer Anastiasi. It is shown left from the catalogue photograph and stands 6cm high. It was filled with the wash and the patient lent over and fitted the cup into the eye socket firmly and then tipped the head back holding the cup firmly in place and opened and closed the eye. It was a device for self-treatment, usually in the home. The patient needed to be self disciplined and willing to open and close the eye. Today if such treatment is required, the wash is more likely to come already provided with its own device which is disposable after each treatment. The eyewash cup appears in good condition and is in appropriate museum-quality storage.
