Abstract The angular and polarization dependences of acoustic phonon emission from a quasi-2D hole gas in quantum wells are theoretically investigated. The contribution of both deformation potential and piezoelectric coupling is considered in the hole-phonon interaction. We have also taken into account the effect of anisotropy of the valence band which gives rise to the hole-phonon interaction due to deformation potential coupling for both LA and TA phonons. Finally, the theory is applied to calculate the rates of acoustic phonon emission in GaAs quantum wells.
