Abstract The radiative lifetime of triplet excitons, is studied here for the first time theoretically in chalcogenide glasses. A new time-dependent exciton-spin-orbit-photon interaction operator is derived and rates of radiative recombination of triplet excitons and corresponding radiative lifetimes are calculated in three chalcogenide glasses, a-As 2 S 3 , a-As 2 Se 3 and a-Se.
