Abstract The dynamics of quasi-two-dimensional excitons involving acoustic phonons is studied for semiconductor quantum wells where an electric field is applied perpendicular to the well layers. A simplified form of the quasi-two-dimensional excitonphonon interaction operator applicable in a weak electric field is derived and is used to calculate rates of exciton scattering from the initial state to a desired final state. The dependence of rates on the electric field, quantum well width and the nature of phonon participation are discussed.
