Abstract This paper highlights the need for recognizing the role of architectural design in providing a cost effective solutions to climate change. Section one of the paper highlights the existing discipline oriented search for solutions to climate change. It will suggest the need for not only recognizing the role played by uncertainty in understanding actual impacts of climate change but also the significance of revitalizing the past information, present expectations and future realizations. Section two presents case studies from India that address issues of complexities in dealing with climate change. These case studies will point out the need for developing interdisciplinary approaches to address solutions for climate change. Finally section three of the paper discusses how design and architecture play an important role for proving cost effective solutions in the near future.
