Abstract This paper will scope a tertiary education unit, “Protecting the Rights of All Children”, designed to prepare pre-service teachers to fulfil their ethical and legal responsibilities, particularly in relation to the Northern Territory Emergency Response Act 2007. The central tenet of the paper is that teachers must have the capacity to use an educative approach to protect those rights articulated by the
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 1990, and upheld by legislation and policies that inform teaching in the Northern Territory
