Abstract Established in 1984, the Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award is the nation’s longest-running award dedicated to Indigenous art and artists. The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, through the Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award, celebrates and showcases the beauty, complexity, vibrancy and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. This publication formally acknowledges the extensive body of artwork produced over the duration of the award. It celebrates the creativity, ingenuity and application of Australia’s Indigenous artists by documenting the artistic achievements of a selection of significant artists, past and present, whose work has been exhibited in the award over its twenty-five year history. Many of these artists, through their art, continue to challenge, innovate and reinvigorate notions of what constitutes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art today. Also featured are each year’s major prize-winning work and the posters produced by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory to promote and celebrate each award.
