Abstract The aim of this field key is to provide an aid to identification of the native and naturalised plant species in the monsoon rainforests surrounding Darwin. It is intended for use by amateur and professional alike. We have used only vegetative characters where ever possible, but occasionally use floral and fruit characters. The monsoon rainforests of the Darwin region contain approximately 360 plant species, all of which are covered in this key. However, the key is useful for most lowland monsoon rainforests in the Top End of the Northern Territory. Published in conjunction with the Key Centre for Tropical Wildlife Management, Northern Territory University (Occasional Paper 2) and the Herbarium, Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory, (Northern Territory Botanical Bulletin No. 28), Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Environment.
